This spectacular trekking permits us to observe the great diversity of vegetation and wildlife such as condor and deer. The paths of Quilciahuanca and Cojup are joined at the highest point called Huapi (5020m). From this point we will see the following snow covered peaks: Huantzán (6395m), San Juan (5884), Maparaju (5326m), Cashen (5686m and 5716m), Tumarinaraju (5668m), Cayesh (5721m), Andavite (5518), Chinchey (6222m), and other mountains. We also will see condor from this high point. |
Itinerary
We leave from Huaraz to the small town of Pitec (3850 m). After a short break and with the help of porters we start walking towards the east to the Ubicacación of the Downs and Cayesh and Quilcayhuanca. From there we walk to Tullpacocha, where it will be the first camp at 4250 m.
This day we start on the path that climbs to the lagoon Cuchillacocha (4625 m) situated at the foot of Pucaranra (6156 m) and Chinchey (6222 m) and then continue to Step Huapi (5020 m). After approximately 5 hours of hiking we will reach the highest point of the circuit. Here we see Nevados de Huapi Pucaranra, Tullparaju, Andavete, Cayesh, Maparaju, San Juan, Palcaraju, Ishinca and Ranrapalca. Then we descend into the Gorge of Cojup and camp in this beautiful valley.
On this day we begin our descent to valley Cojup, and as we walk we will appreciate the landscape of this valley reaching the other side, where we take the bus to return to the city of Huaraz.
