The Huayhuash Mountain Range is located in the central highlands of Peru, 50 km south of the Cordillera Blanca. The Huayhuash Mountain Range has 7 mountains over 6000 m high and other mountains over 5500 m high. Among them is the second highest mountain in Peru, Yerupajá (6634m.a.s.l.), as well as Siulá Grande (6356m) made famous by climber Joe Simpson “Tocando el Vacio”, and others such as Rondoy (5879m), Jirishanca (6094m) Yerupaja Chico (6121m), Sarapo (6,127m), Trapecio (5,644m), Diablo Mudo (5,223m) and Pumarinri (5,465m). This hike covers almost 165 kilometers and is considered the second most beautiful hike in the world.

Itinerary

Approximate distance: 6 hours by car

We leave the city of Huaraz towards the south side, enjoying the landscape of the Cordillera Blanca. We will take a detour from the Conococha lagoon, the city of Chiquían to finally reach Matacancha, the beginning of the walk towards the Cacanán pass 4700 m; We will descend towards Lake Mitucocha, where we will camp and be able to see the Yerupajá Grande mountain, 6634 m, and Siula, 6344 m. We will continue to our next camp

After a delicious breakfast we will leave for the Carhuacocha lagoon, accompanied all the time by impressive views of the Huayhuash Mountain Range, we will arrive at the camp very close to the Carhuacocha lagoon with its crystal clear waters and the view of the second highest snow-capped mountain in Peru, the Yerupajá, We will take pictures and we prepare for the next day.

From our camp we continue to the Siula Pass (4800m), where we can see three bueautifuls lakes, form view point you are goint to see part of the Cordillera HuayhuashCarhuacocha is one of the longest lake in this circuit, you can camp, just in front of. finally we camp in Huayhuash camp site.

Early in the morning we leave camp site to do the famous Trapecio pass to 5040 meters above sea level, this pass is the highest point in our trek, you will be near to Trapecio mountain, wonderfull paradise for get better pictures, Finally we´ We’ll go down the Elephant camp site, we can walk to San Antonio Pass, where you see a valley around the main mountain, and different lakes like Sarapococha and Caramarca Lake. go back to camp site, we rest for next day.

This day easy way will wait for us, as we know Huallapa is part of departament of Lima, on the way, we can see a little waterfall, we´ll  walk along the main river until the village where we´ll camp.

We leave our camp from  Huayllapa Village  in our way we´ll see Diablo Mudo mountain behind a long lake make a beautiful  scenery,then we go to Huatiac Camp (4300m).

After of  Huatiac, we´ll walk a amazing way for to get to last camp site, Jahuacocha is lake that is easy to recognize if you think in Huayhuash, after take some pitures, we´ll going down to camp site just in front to Rondoy mountain, one of the highest moutain in this Cordillera.

Approximate walk: 4-5 hours by car

Our last day one last pass will be waiting for us, we´ll say good bye and thank the mountains for impressive experience, this day we´ll arrive to Pocpa, then we´ll take  private car to return to Huaraz.
