This mountain is considered ideal for beginners. It has one of the most striking views of the city of Huaraz, which is why it is also the most popular for acclimatizing to a higher mountain. To get to this mountain we will have to go through the ravine on the way to the Llaca lagoon and from where we will appreciate the mountains such as Huascarán (6,768 m.), Hualcán (6112m.), Ranrapalca (6162m.), Chopicalqui (6354m.) and others.
Itinerary
Approximate hike: 3-4 hours
We leave Huaraz for the Llaca Valley. We will ascend to the moraine plateau of the Vallunaraju snow-capped mountain. Along the way, we will see the Ranrapalca and Ocshapalca mountains. We also have beautiful views of the Cordillera Blanca and Huaraz mountains.
Approximate hike: 6-7 hours
We leave very early for the day of our ascent to the summit of Vallunaraju (5,686 m). After reaching its peak, you can enjoy excellent views of the Cordillera Negra and the mountains of the Cordillera Blanca: Ocshapalca, Ranrapalca, Janyaraju, Huascarán Sur, Copa, Tocllaraju, Huantsán, Huamhasraju, San Juan, and the northern summit of Vallunaraju.
We then descend to our camp and return to Huaraz.
